BENSALEM TOWNSHIP, PA —The township is seeking applicants for the newly-created position of fire chief.

"We are looking for a highly qualified and competent leader to lead the Bensalem Fire Service as an efficient, proactive combination department," William McVey, the township's director of public safety, told Patch Tuesday.

The ideal candidate will be a proven leader with superior interpersonal communication skills and an extensive background in fire services," the township's notice about the position states. "Also critical to this position is the ability to collaborate and build relationships with all internal and external stakeholders, especially residents, the business community, and volunteer firefighters."

Bensalem Township has six volunteer fire companies besides a full-time fire department, Bensalem EMS, and Bensalem Fire Rescue.

The fire chief will be responsible for the organization, operation, and oversight of career and volunteer firefighters. The chief is also responsible for managing the delivery of fire inspection and prevention services.

The fire chief would report to McVey.

Township officials said the hiring would help transition the township to a combined fire service organization.

The township is accepting applications until noon on Sept. 12.

Applications can be picked up at the Bensalem Township Municipal Complex on 2400 Byberry Rd. or online at bensalempa.gov.
