Giant Launches 'Buy Local' Campaign In PA
Stores in Bucks County and elsewhere in the state will make it easier to find produce and products grown or made in Pennsylvania.
CAMP HILL, PA — Giant Food Stores will be making it easier to buy local Pennsylvania produce through a new campaign in partnership with state agriculture officials.
On Thursday, state Secretary of Agriculture Russell Redding announced the program with officials from Giant.
"While Giant has served as a community cornerstone for decades, they’ve done a remarkable job of keeping their finger on the pulse of consumer trends, as evidenced by this new program," Redding said. "It’s a win-win for consumers and the agriculture industry alike and will help shoppers better connect their food to the farm, helping to strengthen the relationship Pennsylvanians have with local producers."

As part of the campaign, Giant Food Stores will begin highlighting Pennsylvania-made and grown products using "PA Preferred" shelf tags at all of its 156 stores in the state. Redding said that more than 900 items — including meat, poultry, dairy, snacks, pet food condiments, sauces and craft beers and wines — will get the tags.
PA Preferred is the official brand for food and agriculture products grown, produced or processed in Pennsylvania.

"Since our founding more than 95 years ago, Giant has been committed to sourcing locally grown and produced products as much as possible," said Matt Simon, vice president and chief marketing officer for Giant Food Stores. "We are proud to partner with hundreds of local farmers and vendors to bring their products to our customers. Our new PA Preferred shelf tags highlight our unyielding passion for local and we couldn’t be more excited to showcase these fantastic products in such a unique way."
The announcement comes as state politicians are working on the PA Farm Bill. The bill would provide support for and investments in Pennsylvania's agriculture industry and, according to Redding, would make the state a national leader in organic produce and other aspects of the industry.
