Gretzula Apparently Not Returning To Classroom
Resigning superintendent is tabbed for administrative position, not teaching role OK'd last month
Schools Superintendent Bill Gretzula apparently will not be returning to the classroom, as announced last month, and thus won't be taking the huge pay cut previously thought.
The school board at a special meeting July 6 appointed Gretzula to an administrative position, supervisor of curriculum and instruction – professional development and assessment, according to a press release sent out Monday. In addition, the board appointed Serena Rosen as supervisor of curriculum and instruction – secondary level.
Dr. Rosen most recently held the position of mathematics and science supervisor and district testing coordinator at Bordentown Regional School District in New Jersey. She also was an adjunct professor at Rowan University for 14 years.

Gretzula announced his resignation June 8 after two years on the job and was immediately granted his wish to be a district teacher next year via a school board motion.
He said his reason for resigning is to spend more time with his wife and two young children.

Gretzula's current pay is about $166,000 plus allowances. While Gretzula's salary as a district teacher was not determined, district business manager Jack Myers told Patch last month that a person with Gretzula's level of education would be paid between $76,500 and $81,500.
The press release distributed Monday made no mention of the administrative salaries of Gretzula or Rosen, and attempts to get that information were not immediately successful.
He is certified in special education (K-12), in which he spent six years before becoming an administrator, and elementary education (K-6).
Gretzula joined the district in Feb. 2007 as an assistant superintendent and moved up to superintendent in 2009, being granted a four-year contact.
Dr. Gretzula earned his bachelor’s degree with dual certification in elementary and special education from La Salle University. He also holds a master’s degree with distinction in educational administration from Rider University and a doctorate in educational leadership, oral defense with distinction, from the University of Pennsylvania.
Rosen received her bachelor's degree in business administration and master's degree in mathematics education from Temple University. She earned her doctorate in education/educational administration from Widener University. She is a member of the Association of Supervisors of Curriculum and Development, Association of Mathematics Teachers of New Jersey, South Jersey Math Alliance and the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics.
According to the release, Rosen has extensive experience in many areas of mathematics and science education, curriculum design, budget management, grant writing, statistical analysis, staff development and supervision.
