Man Fired 6 Shots At Bensalem Officers: Police

Police were called to Herringbone Lane in Bensalem shortly before 9:30 p.m. on Saturday in regard to a suspicious person in a vehicle.

BENSALEM, PA — A local man is in custody after authorities say he tried to kill police officers Saturday night, firing six shots from a 9-millimeter handgun at them.

Frederick A. Schruby, 38, of Bristol Borough, faces a long list of charges, including six counts of attempted murder, assault of a law enforcement officer and illegal possession of a firearm, according to court records.

He was being held at Bucks County Jail, unable to pay 10 percent of a $500,000 bail.

According to documents from the Bucks County District Attorney's office, police were called to Herringbone Lane in Bensalem shortly before 9:30 p.m. on Saturday in regard to a suspicious person in a vehicle parked outside a residence there.

The man got out of the vehicle and was approached by police at the intersection of Station Ave. and Rt. 13. There, police say, Schruby put his hands inside his pockets and refused commands to remove them.

When an officer wrapped his arms around Schruby from behind, he pulled a semi-automatic 9-millimeter pistol from his pocket and began firing. Another officer grabbed the gun and tackled Schruby to the ground, but he kept firing, police documents say.

Officers eventually subdued him using a taser, according to police.

No officers were shot in the incident, but a police vehicle sustained a flat tire believed to be from a gunshot.
