Mosquito Spray Scheduled in Bensalem

Parts of Bensalem will be sprayed Thursday to eradicate mosquitos with West Nile Virus.

Parts of Bensalem will be sprayed Thursday after multiple mosquitoes have recently tested positive for West Nile Virus.

The treatments will be administered via two vehicles, spraying residential and recreational mosquito habitat. The first vehicle will use truck-mounted equipment that dispenses Masterline Kontrol 4-4 at a rate of 0.75 ounces per acre. The second vehicle will use ATV-mounted equipment that dispenses Masterline Kontrol 4-4 at a rate of 0.62 ounces per acre, according to information from the state West Nile Control program.

If weather conditions prevent the spray from happening on Thursday, the following evening will serve as the back-up spray date, officials said.

The exact location of the spray has not yet been announced.

“The product is designed to provide quick, effective control of adult mosquito populations. The application material has a very low toxicity profile to mammals and will have negligible impact to non-target insects and the environment,” according to a press release from the state.
