Mosquito Spraying Scheduled in Bucks County, Health Officials Announce

The Bucks County West Nile Virus Prevention Program will conduct an ultra-low volume (ULV) mosquito control operation to reduce high populations of mosquitoes capable of transmitting West Nile Virus Wednesday, August 24, in Falls and Middletown Townships, according to a press release issued Monday.

The treatments will be administered via truck-mounted equipment, spraying mosquito habitats in residential and park locations, the county said.

The equipment dispenses Duet Dual-Action Adulticide at a rate of 0.75 ounces per acre.

Officials said that the chemicals have a "very low" toxicity profile to mammals, and will have "negligible" impact to non-target insects and the environment.

Officials hope the spraying reduces the transmission of West Nile Virus, which is frequently carried by mosquitoes.

The first human in the area to contract West Nile Virus was reported in Philadelphia last week. All residents in the areas listed below are at risk of West Nile, according to the county.

In Middletown Township, the treated area will include: the Snowball Drive and the Forsythia Drive sections including Snowball Dr, Sycamore Rd, Silverbell Rd, Spinythorn Rd, Spicebush Rd, Steeplebush Rd, Smoketree Rd, Sugarplum Rd, Spindletree Rd, Sweetgum Rd, Shadywood Rd, Sunflower Rd, Scarlet Oak Rd, Spring Valley Rd, Silverspruce Rd, Seckelpear Rd, Shellflower Rd, Forsythia Dr N, Forsythia Dr E, Forsythia Dr S, Four Leaf Rd, Foxglove Rd, Firebush Rd, Flamingo Rd, Fallenrock Rd, Firtree Rd, Falcon Rd, Fountain Rd, Full Turn Rd, Flamehill Rd, Fieldstone Rd, Fruitree Rd, Flagstone Pl, and Forsythia Crossing.

In Falls Township: the Vermillion Drive and Thornridge Drive sections including Thornridge Dr, Tanglewood Ln, Thinkbark Ln, Twin Leaf Ln, Teaberry Ln, Tulip Ln, Tall Pine Ln, Top Hill Ln, Tearose Ln, Tapered Oak Ln, Tamarack Ln, Thornyapple Ln, Thimbleberry Ln, Turn Hill Ln, Timber Ln, Tiger Lily Ln, Thaliabush Ln, Twisting Ln, Twig Ln, Tree Ln, Timothy Ln, Turnabout Ln, Vermillion Dr, Viburnum Ln, Vividleaf Ln, Vicar Ln, Viewpoint Ln, Vine Ln, Victoria Ln, Village Ln, Vase Ln, Vitaloak Ln, Valentine Ln, Village Ln, Vermillion Way, Vermont Ln, Vermillion Ln, Vestry Ln, Venture Ln, Viking Ln, Velvet Ln, Valor Ln, Viaduct Ln, and Vermont Turn.

If conditions do not allow application on August 24, 2016, subsequently Thursday evening, August 25, will serve as the back-up spray date.
