Neshaminy Mall Historic Dioramas To Be Preserved

BENSALEM TOWNSHIP, PA — While the Neshaminy Mall will be closing for good soon, it's historic and iconic art inside the building will live on.

Bensalem Township Mayor Joseph DiGirolamo has announced that he's making the preservation of the mall's historic dioramas a priority.

The mayor said that the township has already removed four dioramas and restored two.

He said that one is currently displayed at the Bensalem Municipal Building.

Another will soon be exhibited at the Mercer Museum in Doylestown, the mayor said.

The Bucks County Redevelopment Authority is planning to help with the makeover of the 108.5 acre-site property located on Route 1 near the PA Turnpike.

The three remaining dioramas will also be carefully removed and preserved by Bensalem Township before the demolition of the mall, which is expected sometime by the end of the year.

"They will remain in the care of the Township and Mayor DiGirolamo until appropriate permanent homes can be identified, officials said.

Mayor DiGirolamo said the Native American statue/fountain is also a priority for preservation.

He said that discussions are already underway regarding its future placement within the township.

Meanwhile, the AMC-24 Movie Theater, Boscov’s and Barnes and Noble, will remain open despite the closing of the mall.

It's unclear so far what the mall's redevelopment entails, although some shoppers have weighed in.
