Roving DUI Patrols Set In Bucks Co. For Labor Day Weekend
The PA legislature clarified the legality of roving DUI patrols last month, clearing the way for the Bucks County effort.
Police departments throughout Bucks County will be ramping up DUI enforcement over the Labor Day weekend.
The enhanced patrols, paid for by a state and federally funded grant, will begin at 10 p.m. on Saturday and run though 3 a.m. on Sunday. During that time, extra officers will be on roving patrols in 10 Bucks County jurisdictions.
"These days there is simply no excuse for impaired driving. If you do, you risk others' lives and you’ll get arrested," said Bucks County District Attorney Matt Weintraub. "Fortunately, there are more options than ever for safely getting where you’re going."

Holiday-weekend motorists can expect to see the ramped up patrols in Bensalem, Doylestown, Middletown, New Britain, Newtown, Penndel, Richland, Upper Southampton, Warrington and Warwick.
The joint patrols come after legislation signed into law last month in Harrisburg clarified the law about such efforts. A state Supreme Court decision had placed their legal status in question and a planned July 4 effort was scrubbed as a result.

Thought this weekend's effort includes a number of departments, officers participating in the patrols will be operating within their own jurisdictions.
