Security Camera Registration Program Seeks More Bensalem Residents
The Bensalem Township Police Department is urging residents to register their cameras to promote safety. The program started in mid-October.

BENSALEM TOWNSHIP, PA —The Bensalem Township Police Department is seeking more recruits for its security camera registration program.
More than two months after it was launched, the police department is reaching out to residents.
"Help keep our community safe by registering your cameras with the Bensalem Police Department. It only takes a minute to sign-up. Your video could make all of the difference in solving or preventing crimes," the police department posted on its Facebook page.

In mid-October, the police department launched the FUSUS Camera Registry Program, asking that people provide police with the locations of their security cameras in a collaborative effort to keep the township safe.
William McVey, the township's public safety director, said the system is a "community policing collaboration with technology."

McVey added that police department's use of technology with intersection cameras and license plate readers has helped curb crime. Even township school buses this year were outfitted with cameras.

Residents would have to provide their contact information. That information would be placed into a secure map that is only accessed by the police department.
