BENSALEM TOWNSHIP, PA —"Smile, You're on Camera."

That's what Wednesday's post on the Bensalem Township Police Department's Facebook page states. But police and school officials aren't smiling regarding motorists who are failing to stop for school buses.

Two weeks ago, police reported that school bus patrol cameras were capturing an average of 25 violations per school day.

While the police department didn't update that number, they did post on their Facebook page a week ago that police "continue to see numerous violations" of flashing red signals each day.

"You MUST stop when there is no physical barrier dividing the highway even if there is a center turning lane," police warn in that post with a message underneath saying that it's state law.

Police are able to capture these speeding vehicles thanks to a joint effort to have all township school buses equipped with security cameras at the start of the school year.

The safety initiative is designed to crack down on motorists who fail to stop, police and school officials said.

Police warn that all drivers running stop lights on a school bus are subject to serious penalties for the violations.
