Shafer Middle School To Honor Veterans Thursday

BENSALEM TOWNSHIP, PA —The Robert K. Shafer Middle School is hosting a Veterans Day assembly Thursday, paying their respects to those who fought for our freedom.

The assembly for seventh- and eighth-grade students takes place at 1 p.m. Thursday in the Shafer gymnasium of the school at 3333 Hulmeville Rd.

The assembly will open with the presentation of the American flag by the Bensalem High School MCJROTC students and the Shafer chorus singing the National Anthem, school officials said.

Also included will be introductions and remarks from school district administrators. Local government officials and their representatives will also be in attendance.

Guest speakers include Harold Piper, former Shafer PCA, (US Army); Col. John Church USMCR (Ret.), Leadership Studies Department - Senior Marine Instructor; and Donald Weber, grandfather to Shafer student Erin Overlander-Lutz, (Navy).

The assembly is expected to last 45 minutes and will be followed by a reception in the library for the honored guests and Shafer students who brought pictures of their relatives who are either veterans or currently serving in our armed forces.
