The Bensalem casino's sports book will start out in a temporary location during a $10 million expansion, set to be done in 2019.

BENSALEM, PA — Sports gamblers in Bucks County and the surrounding area will be getting a new place to play next week.
Parx Casino has announced that its sports book will officially launch on Thursday, Jan. 10, beginning at 1 p.m. The opening hinges on final approval from Pennsylvania gaming officials, who will be observing testing days on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The Bensalem casino's sports book will initially be in a temporary location as the casino completes a $10 million expansion to build a state-of-the-art sports betting area slated to be open in 2019.

Legal sports betting became possible at casinos in states across the nation in May, when the U.S. Supreme Court struck down a longstanding prohibition on the practice in most states.
The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board approved the first licenses for casinos to host sports betting in October. Parx was one of two casinos, along with Penn National Gaming, to receive the board's approval.
Parx says that once it's open, the sports book in Bensalem will offer the most popular styles of sports betting, including spreads, money lines, props, parlays and teasers. Betting will be available on contests in the NFL, NBA, Major League Baseball, NHL, college football, college basketball, MMA, golf, tennis and more.
Parx also plans to launch an online sports betting app in 2019.
The temporary sports book will be open seven days a week, from 1 p.m.-midnight Mondays, 1 p.m.-1 a.m. Tuesday through Friday, 9 a.m.-1 a.m. on Saturdays and 9 a.m.-midnight on Sundays.
The space will features 20 high-definition television screens and two 16x9-foot screens that can be split to show four different contests. In total, the temporary sports book will be able to broadcast 28 games at the same time.
