St. Jude Religious Store Closing After Nearly 60 Years In Bensalem
The store on Neshaminy Boulevard is expected to shut its doors within the next week because its owners are retiring, an employee said.

BENSALEM TOWNSHIP, PA —After nearly 60 years in business, the St. Jude Religious Store will soon be shutting its doors.
The family-operated store —located at 4201 Neshaminy Blvd. in Neshaminy Square —has served as a staple in the community, but the owner is getting ready to retire, an assistant store manager said.
"A lot of relationships were formed, bonding with customers who became family," Angela Pineapple told Patch Tuesday. "Customers even mention how incredibly sad it is, especially because it's been around for the entirety of some of the adults' lives who currently shop there."

The store branded itself as the "most complete church and religious goods store in the area," offering faith-based items such as Bibles, rosaries, medals, statues, crucifixes, statues, and items for Christmas and Easter, weddings, communions, and confirmations.
"It's an amazing store, with a lot of great people including staff and customers," Pineapple said. "It's unfortunate it's closing now but that's my selfishness because I truly love where I work and who I work with."

She said the store is still open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
"We do not have a specific date but will be open at least until either Sunday or sometime next week," Pineapple said. "As of right now, we are just doing it day by day. As long as we keep busy and have you guys coming in, we will remain open for as long as possible."
According to its website, the store began operations when its founder, Russell L. Davis, was diagnosed with tuberculosis in 1961. He prayed to St. Jude, the patron saint of lost causes, and was eventually cured.
Those answered prayers prompted Davis to open the store in Mayfair in 1965, which he operated until his death in 1981.
“The disease arrested its progress and never returned,” said Russ Davis, his son. “(Dad) felt St. Jude was the reason he lived.”
Since then, the store —which moved to Bensalem —has been run by Russ and Debbie Davis.
The store is offering all items at 70 percent off with anniversary items only at 90 percent off.
"We thank our customers so much for dealing with the craziness at the store lately," Pineapple said. "The amount of patience most of you guys have, as well as the kindness in your hearts to understand the craziness when you come in and shop, is very much appreciated."
