Superintendent's Decision to Resign A Financially Costly One
As a teacher, Gretzula will likely earn less than half of his $166,000 salary

There's a saying about putting your money where your mouth is.
Schools Superintendent Bill Gretzula may now be used as a prime example.
Dr. Gretzula announced his resignation last week after two years on the job and was immediately granted his wish by the school board to be a district teacher next year.

He said his reason for resigning is to spend more time with his wife and two young children. And board President Heather Nicholas lauded Gretzula for having his priorities in order.
“You're not in it for the money. You're not in it for the recognition. You're in it for the kids,” she said at the June 8 board meeting.

One thing seems sure: Gretzula's pay will be cut by more than 50 percent.
Business manager Jack Myers says Gretzula's current pay is about $166,000 plus allowances.
“Although I am not involved in individual salary computation, a teacher with his level of education would be paid between $76,500 and $81,500 to start,” Myers told Patch.
Gretzula's exact position has yet to be determined. He is certified in special education (K-12), in which he spent six years before becoming an administrator, and elementary education (K-6).
Gretzula joined the district in Feb. 2007 as an assistant superintendent and moved up in 2009. He leaves – his last day tentatively set at Aug. 30 – with two years left on his contract.
After last week's meeting, Nicholas said the board hasn't had the time to determine exactly how they will pursue a successor to Gretzula.
