Veterans-Friendly Apartment Complex OKed In Bensalem

The complex, on Mechanicsville Road, will have 41 residential units and give preference to military veterans, developers say.

BENSALEM, PA — A new apartment complex with 41 units has been approved in Bensalem. The township council voted last week to approve final plans for Pennrose Properties for the property on Mechanicsville Road.

The group plans to offer affordable housing for veterans in the complex and, township officials say, will be working with local groups to identify eligible veterans. The final approval is the latest step for a project that has been in the works since 2011.

The vote at the township council meeting last week was 5-0 in favor of the project.

It will be a three-story building that will include an office for a Veteran's Affairs officer or other social worker to work with veterans, developers said. Developers had previously proposed a larger complex, that would have been four stories with 69 units, but scaled back the proposal after feedback from the township and neighbors.

Developers say the complex will be age-restricted to residents 62 years old and older. The bulk of the units will be set aside for people with limited incomes and the rents will range from $749-$913 per month, developers said.
