Women's Humane Society Hosting National Animal Appreciation Shelter Week Events

Events are planned for Nov. 10 through Nov. 12 throughout the area.

The Women's Humane Society will be celebrating National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week with an several community events next week at various locations throughout the area.

Check out the events planned for next week:

  • Thursday, Nov. 10 – WHS Day at Starbucks, noon to 4 p.m., Starbucks, 3619 Horizon Blvd, Feasterville-Trevose. The Women’s Humane Society will be on-site with our adoptable animals to celebrate National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week with Starbucks lovers and collect donations in support of our shelter animals.
  • Thursday, Nov. 10 – “Hairy” Potter Yappy Hour, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., Bar Louie, 300 Rock Hill Drive, Bensalem. Bar Louie is donating 20 percent of their proceeds for the entire day to the Women’s Humane Society as part of National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week when you mention National Animal Shelter Week or the Women’s Humane Society. Harry Potter-inspired costumes encouraged but not required. “Hairy Potter” Yappy Hour will feature specialty drinks and will include $3.25 drafts, $4.25 wines, $5.25 signature martinis, and half price select apps and flatbreads. Make sure you mention Women’s Humane Society when stopping by the bar.
  • Friday, Nov. 11 – Designer Bag Bingo, 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., Bensalem Country Club. 2000 Brown Ave, Bensalem. Tickets can be purchased for $45 per person and include a full dinner buffet, dessert, nonalcoholic beverages and entry into our door prize raffle. Wine, beer and liquor will be available at a cash bar. Additional bingo pads and daubers will also be available for purchase. 50/50 cash drawing and raffle for a chance to win one or more prizes including gift baskets and certificates.
  • Saturday, Nov. 12 – Women’s Humane Society Day at Talbots, noon to 2 p.m., Talbots, 100 N. Flowers Mill Road, Langhorne. Shop at Talbots in Langhorne between noon and 2 p.m. and 10 percent of your sales will be donated towards supporting the Women’s Humane Society’s shelter animals.

"Many people don’t realize that many open-access animal shelters like the Women’s Humane Society receive no government funding," Director of Shelter Services Jack Griffin said in a statement. "The community’s support is vital to our overall lifesaving efforts including those patients we see in the Caroline Earle White Veterinary Hospital."

Founded in 1869 in Philadelphia, the Women’s Humane Society is historically the first animal shelter in America and has been rehoming and reuniting animals with their families for nearly 150 years.

"As America’s First Animal Shelter, the Women’s Humane Society celebrates National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week with enthusiasm, pride, and most importantly with our community who allow us to continue to help our region’s animals," WHS CEO Cathy Malkemes said in a statement. "We are so thankful to our local businesses for being such fantastic supporters of our work and our shelter animals."

The Women’s Humane Society will also be offering $35 adoption fees on Friday, Nov. 11 and Saturday, Nov. 12 for all senior shelter animals aged 7 years and older.
