Good morning Bethlehem. Today is Friday, October 14, 2011. It has now been exactly 103 years since the Chicago Cubs last won the World Series. You see Phillies fans? It could always be worse. Here comes the weekend.
- It’s that time of year for scary ghost stories. Go to the to take the Historic Haunts of Downtown Bethlehem walking tour. From the book store website: “An experienced tour guide will escort you through the darkened streets of Bethlehem’s Downtown Historic District with stops and stories at locations reputedly haunted.” The first tour leaves the book shop at 6 p.m. and subsequent tours depart every 15 minutes until 7:45. Tickets are $13 for adults and $10 for children.
- Continue your frightful evening at the for , an eerie piece of experimental theater, “featuring a chilling cast of characters, suspenseful stories, and haunting vignettes that explore the depths of terror that lurk within the human soul.” The performance starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are $25 for adults and $15 for students and seniors.
- If your preference is to be soothed by the sound of music, Baker Hall at the Zoellner Arts Center might be more to your liking. There, at 8 p.m., the performs three pieces by German masters – Wagner’s Overture to Die Meistersinger, Hindemith’s Symphonic Metamorphosis and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7. Tickets are $18 for adults, $17 for seniors and $5 for children ages 5 to 17.
- Rather hear some jazz? Go to the for a free performance by the Anderson Twins Jazz Band. Identical twin saxophonists and Juilliard graduates Peter and William Anderson lead the combo, which has become a fixture in the New York jazz scene. The concert starts at 8 p.m. on the TD Bank Community Stage on the first floor of the center.
- A clash of the high school gridiron titans is on tap in Nazareth at 7 p.m. as the Patriots travel north to face the Blue Eagles in a battle of the Lehigh Valley Conference’s last two unbeaten teams. Also tonight, the 4-2 Hurricanes host the winless Dieruff Huskies at the stadium; the 3-3 Golden Hawks travel to Northampton to face the 1-5 Konkrete Kids; and the winless Crusaders go to Hellertown to face the 2-4 Saucon Valley Panthers.
