Join Wildlands Conservancy for a hands-on Monarch Tagging &amp; Meadow Exploration. This immersive outdoor experience invites participants to explore vibrant meadow habitats while directly supporting monarch butterfly populations in the Lehigh Valley. Led by our Senior Restoration Ecologist and a Wildlands Environmental Educator, this program connects participants to Wildlands’ mission to protect natural landscapes while fostering environmental stewardship through science, discovery, and exploration.
Program Highlights:
Monarch Tagging as Citizen Science
Under the expert guidance of our Environmental Educator, participants will learn how to carefully capture and tag monarch butterflies as they prepare for their migration to Mexico. By contributing to this important citizen science project, you’ll help track monarch populations and support international efforts to monitor their migration and survival.
Guided Meadow Exploration
Participants will explore a native meadow habitat and learn about the plants, pollinators, and ecological relationships that support monarchs and other wildlife. Discover how these rich ecosystems function, identify native species, and gain a deeper understanding of the critical role meadows play in sustaining biodiversity. Nets will be provided.
Perfect for:
Nature enthusiasts, families, educators, and anyone interested in butterflies, pollinators, and the beauty of meadow ecosystems. Best for adults and children 10 and up.

Join Wildlands Conservancy on this exciting adventure!!! Maple Tract Preserve is part of the Fern Ridge Bog complex, a 1,390‑acre landscape permanently protected through a partnership between Wildlands Conservancy, The Nature Conservancy, and Tunkhannock Township. This glacial bog system supports rare and declining species, including the northern flying squirrel, while protecting downstream water quality. 
 
The 688‑acre preserve features over 7 miles of trails through wetlands, forests, and along Tunkhannock Creek. Our hike will travel sections of Brian’s Trail, maintained by dedicated volunteers. Trail options allow participants to complete shorter or longer loops depending on preference. Terrain consists of single‑ and doubletrack trails over gently rolling forested land.&nbsp; This program is ideal for adults and older youth interested in ecology, habitat management, conservation, science, and responsible outdoor recreation. 
What to Know

Wildlands Conservancy’s PreK Pathfinders program
is part of a monthly series designed for children ages 3-5 and their grown-ups. 
This month: Stretch, flex and take a breath! It’s time for animal inspired yoga, with some of our education animal ambassadors and outdoor play. Each participant encouraged to bring a yoga mat or blanket.

Discover the hidden world of Pennsylvania’s most elusive mammals and take part in real conservation science. Join Wildlands Conservancy at Maple Tract Preserve as we assist with a multi-year effort to study weasels and other rarely seen small mammals using remote wildlife cameras.
During this hands-on field program, participants will help set up wildlife camera traps, learn how researchers monitor secretive species, and explore why small mammal conservation matters to healthy ecosystems. Along the way, we’ll hike through forests, wetlands, and rocky terrain while searching for signs of wildlife and discussing habitat needs and animal behavior.&nbsp;&nbsp;This program is ideal for adults and older youth interested in ecology, habitat management, conservation science, and responsible outdoor recreation. 
 
Participants should be prepared to hike 1–3 miles over moderate, uneven terrain that may include rocks, roots, mud, and wet areas.

Join Carl Martin, Wildlands Conservancy's Director of Property Stewardship, for a guided exploration of Black River Sanctuary's Right-of-Way Stewardship Project. This program will showcase the habitat restoration work completed to date, highlight the ecological benefits of managing utility corridors for wildlife, and provide an inside look at future plans for the site. 
 
Participants will learn how strategic vegetation management, invasive species control, native plant establishment, and ongoing stewardship efforts are improving habitat connectivity and biodiversity across the preserve. Along the tour, Carl will discuss current restoration successes, challenges, and the long-term vision for transforming the right-of-way into a thriving habitat for pollinators, birds, and other wildlife. 
 
Whether you're interested in land management, conservation, or local ecology, this is a unique opportunity to see stewardship in action and learn how thoughtful restoration practices are creating healthier landscapes for both wildlife and people.&nbsp; All ages are welcome!
