Athletic Fields Policy to Remain the Same

Athletic league volunteers will train as site managers to offset district costs.

The Bethlehem Area School District agreed to leave the Monday evening, after Bulldogs' and Kings league officials offered a plan to offset district costs for their use.

Each league will contribute $8,000 towards custodial maintenance costs. The remainder of the approximately $24,000 the use of the facilities by non-school activities costs annually will be borne by the district. Other groups using the facilities reimburse the district for personnel needed to open and oversee them during their use under the current policy.

The leagues will also contribute volunteers to be trained to act as site managers for their own games and activities, offsetting that cost to the district.

The board voted 7-1 in favor of the agreement.

Member Linda Follweiler disagreed, saying that she felt there should be no cost to the district for any non-school activities using the district facilities.
