Bach Choir Invited to 9-11 Commemoration

Report: Bethlehem choir going to Ground Zero in New York for weeklong series of events.

The Bach Choir of Bethlehem has been picked to represent Pennsylvania at Ground Zero for the tenth anniversary commemoration of the 9-11 terrorist attacks next to the World Trade Center in Lower Manhattan, according to this Morning Call blog post.

The choir will perform at historic St. Paul’s Chapel, which served as a base of operations for firefighters and emergency workers in the aftermath of the attacks. The Bach Choir is one of four that have been invited to perform on Sept. 9 as part of a weeklong series of events leading to the dedication of the Reflecting Pools at Memorial Plaza, which will be in the footprint of the Twin Towers.

Bethlehem Mayor John Callahan is recommending that the city provide $5,000 to help the choir defray its $65,000 cost to attend the memorial. City Council’s Finance Committee will look at that recommendation on Monday night.
