Bethlehem Man Struck By Car, Killed

Man hit by a car in Bethlehem died at the scene.

A man was struck and killed by a car while trying to cross the street in Bethlehem, according to police.

Antonio Cartagena, 53, of Bethlehem, was hit by the vehicle while trying to cross West Union Boulevard shortly before 8 p.m on Tuesday. The accident occurred at the intersection of Main Street and West Union Boulevard, according to WFMZ-TV. Cartagena was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the vehicle, who has not been identified because of the ongoing investigation, remained at the scene of the accident. The driver was not injured, but is suspected of driving under the influence alcohol, WFMZ-TV reports. The driver was taken for chemical testing, according to Bethlehem Police.

Charges against the driver of the vehicle that struck Cartagena will not be determined until the Northampton County Coroner’s Office finishes its examination and until toxicology reports are returned.
