Horizons For Youth
10th Annual Fall Youth Scholastic Chess Championship
Saturday, March 24, 2011

Site Location: College Center, 2nd Floor

Northampton Community College
3835 Green Pond Road,Bethlehem, PA 18020

On site registration begins 8 AM
On site registration closes 9 AM sharp
Pre-registrants arrive by 9 AM
First match for both tournaments begins 9:30 AM

Both tournaments will run independently of each other (see details below)
Food/beverages available to purchase all day (Breakfast and Lunch).

Unrated Tournament
--Ages 14 and under, play only against kids
your own age
--Great for first time at a chess tournament
--Great for kids who just have learned how to
play or have some experience
--Tournament will run independently of rated
tournament schedule
--Chess equipment provided
--Everyone plays 5 rounds of chess
--Each round provides up to one hour of
playing time, which is more than enough time
for this tournament. To keep the day moving
faster, subsequent rounds will start 15 minutes after last game played in previous round.
--Positive, fun atmosphere
--Random draw prizes between rounds
--Trophies & Medallions in age categories -
Ages: 5-7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13-14
--Projected time for awards presentation is 3 pm
or sooner

Rated Tournament
--Ages 18 and under
--Great for the more serious chess player
--Follow USCF (United States Chess Federation)
Rules - write moves down, chess clock must be used
--Bring chess equipment
--Must be a USCF member, cost is approximately
$20 for 1-year membership. Separate fee from the registration fee. If not a member yet, call or email Scott Zrinski who will help you become a member before the day of the tournament. This will make the registration process easier.
--Everyone plays 5 rounds of chess
--Schedule - 9:30, 10:45, 12:30, 1:45, 3:00
--Random draw prizes at end of rated tournament
--Trophies - 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and Best Under
Ratings 1400, 1200, 1000, 800, 600, 400
--Projected time for awards presentation is 4:30pm.
