We would like to invite you to participate in the final Second Friday series we've been having about Transition Towns in the community room of the Unitarian Universalist Church of the Lehigh Valley for the past six months. We will meet 7:00 PM Friday evening June 10th at our UU Church located at 424 Wall St. Bethlehem PA 18017. We expect to go till 9 or 10 pm .
So far we have shown the films the end of suburbia and the power of community with discussions at our first and second sessions, then continued giving a brief Interactive overview of the transition initiatives handbook for the next three sessions. We have invited two people representing Transition Cheltenham PA and Transition Newton NJ (two existing initiatives within 90 minuets of us ) to share their experiences with our group but have not heard back from them as yet. Whether they come or not we will examine some examples of "Energy Descent Action Plans" and discuss what seems useful. It would be great to have some new participants as we ponder what steps to pick next.
Our group at the UU so far encompasses folks from the many regions of the Lehigh Valley but we have not yet been able to find a concentration of four or five people in any one location to work together on starting an initiative as is recommended by the Transition Handbook. One possibility as we do further activities, like re-skilling for resilience, creating edible forest gardens, organizing local participation for both 350.org's Sept 24th moving planet and Earth day 2012 is growth of core groups in small communities. We will have a focusing question toward the second half of the meeting " what short term vision do folks have for their communities and transition". The Schedule and Agenda for another UU course will also be discussed .
