Six local high school jazz bands will each perform for a chance to open for the Preservation Hall Jazz Band on May 12 during the RiverJazz Festival.
The competitors are Boyertown Area Senior High School, , Kutztown Area High School, , Pocono Mountain East High School and Saucon Valley High School.
Each band will perform a 20-minute set before a live audience and judging panel of music educators. The event will also include performances by the Moravian College Jazz Faculty Band and SteelStacks Jazz All-Star Big Band, as well as the official awards presentation for the top soloists and top sections. However, the grand prize winner will not be named until a special program at 9 p.m., March 24 on WFMZ-TV.
