The Cotton Industry was only partially correct when it coined “cotton, the fabric of our lives”. In fact, TEXTILES are the fabrics that surround, comfort and define our homes and our bodies. We are able to communicate something about ourselves by the very selection of color, pattern and fabrics which help to create identities, personalize our environments . The European courts traveled with large tapestries which by the simple act of hanging recreated the power and spirit of the court. Textiles create our comfort zones.

After painting a series of fabric based paintings Evelyn Mowder began working on Power Grids when one morning she saw sunlight peeking through the Venetian blinds casting shadows on works in process in her studio. These paintings evoke woven fabrics, horizontal and vertical axis, shimmer shafts of light as well as atmosphere.
Power grids morphed into a series of paintings called Color lines. In the world of textiles, Color lines include all color options in a particular style offered by a manufacturer. Color lines are displayed in many ways, one of her favorites is “the waterfall” sounds just like the name, lush color swatches unfurling into a spectacle of flowing fabric in a multitude of color. According to Ms. Mowder, “My paintings are an exploration of movement, unfurling color, and the lushness of paint. I guess for me, it all begins and ends with fabric.”
