Freedom Students up for 15 Freddy Awards Tonight

Editor's Note: Shortly after the Freddy Award nominations were announced two weeks ago, Bethlehem Patch contributor Tara Zrinski caught up to Freedom High School drama instructor Jennifer Wescoe to ask her about Freedom's production of Joseph & The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and the impressive 15 nominations it received, including "Outstanding Overall Production." The awards will be presented at 7 p.m. tonight at the State Theatre in Easton and broadcast live on WFMZ-TV, Channel 69.

Bethlehem Patch: How do you feel about the nomination for Outstanding Overall Production? 

Jennifer Wescoe: It is a terrific honor to receive a nomination for this category.  The kids worked so hard, and it is absolutely incredible to be recognized. 

Patch: What were kids reactions? 

Wescoe: Our kids were extremely excited.  Everyone was jumping around and hugging each other.  Emotions ran high, but I am proud to say that they applauded and cheered for other schools and students when they were nominated as well.   Because they have seen so many other school's productions, they were happy for others' recognition as well. 

Patch: Did you do anything special as a drama department to watch the nomination broadcast?

Wescoe: We all gathered in the sports' aerobics room and watched the nominations together. It has become a tradition.

Patch: How do you think you will fair in the categories listed?

Wescoe: Honestly, it is an honor just to receive nominations.  Students work hard at every school each spring, and we know that there are many others who deserve to have the spotlight on them.

Patch: Were there any awards that you REALLY want to win this year?

Wescoe: As far as I'm concerned, we have already won.  These kids worked extremely hard to put on successful productions year after year, and the Freddys are the sprinkles for the icing on the cake.
