Joan & Joni tribute with the music of Simon & Garfunkel - Sunday April 5 at Sellersville Theater

The Sellersville Theater presents the Pennsylvania premiere of Joan & Joni, a tribute to Joan Baez and Joni Mitchell performed by singer-songwriters Allison Shapira and Kipyn Martin on Sunday April 5th at 7:30 pm. Also on the bill, A.J. Swearingen and Jayne Kelli will be performing the music of Simon & Garfunkel.

In Joan & Joni, Allison and Kipyn bring to the stage many of Joan Baez’s and Joni Mitchell’s classic songs as well as a few of their lesser-known tunes. They will demonstrate the influence Baez and Mitchell have had on them and other modern musicians.

Kipyn Martin gained international distinction in the 2013 UK Song Contest when “”I Believe in You”” from her debut album Undercover Muse earned a semi-finalist rating. ““Nightbird”” also from her debut CD, won a Gold Award, as well as the Director’s Choice Award, in the 2013 Mid-Atlantic Song Contest. Recent accolades for Kipyn include being named New Artist of the Year by the Washington Area Music Association and being selected as a Showcase Artist at the 2014 Southeast/Northeast Regional Folk Alliance (SNERFA) Conference.

Allison Shapira (she refers to herself as a “recovering opera singer”) spent years studying classical voice at Boston University, Tanglewood, and in Italy. Her debut CD, Coming Home, was recorded in 2012 and released at the same Club Passim where Joan Baez got her start in 1958.
