Local senior living community adopts chemical-free cleaning system, honors housekeeping leader

Traditions of Hanover, an independent living community managed by Heritage Senior Living LLC, has shifted to a chemical-free cleaning system as part of a broader effort to improve resident safety and reduce environmental impact.

The community now uses a multi-purpose cleaning and disinfecting product from Viking Pure Solutions that contains no harsh chemicals or toxic residues while meeting hospital-grade disinfecting standards. The system is designed to support infection prevention and surface safety under the demands of daily use in a senior living environment.

Cleanliness in senior living communities carries stakes beyond basic hygiene. Older adults are disproportionately vulnerable to infections, and high-traffic areas, such as dining rooms, hallways, and activity spaces, can become hot spots for transmission during flu season and other outbreaks. Senior living communities that can maintain effective disinfection without chemical residues may reduce risks for both residents and staff who are exposed to cleaning agents daily.

Gina Miller, housekeeping supervisor at Traditions of Hanover, has overseen the transition firsthand. “We’re seeing enhanced levels of cleanliness without the smell and irritation that came with the old products,” Miller said. “For our residents, that matters. A lot of them are sensitive to strong chemicals, and this has made a real difference in how the spaces feel day to day.”

Miller was recently nominated for the 2026 Women Reimagining Senior Living Award, an honor presented by Viking Pure Solutions that recognizes women redefining care standards across the senior living industry. The award highlights leaders who improve health and safety outcomes for residents and staff alike.

In her role, Miller manages housekeeping schedules, leads deep-cleaning initiatives, and mentors younger team members, work that Heimsoth says has had a tangible impact on the community’s overall environment and culture.
