Report: Route 412 Expansion Project Delayed

Work will be delayed by more than a year.

The project to widen Route 412 between Hellertown and South Bethlehem has hit  a significant setback.

The project originally was to be completed by August 2016 at a cost of $36 million. But at Thursday's Hellertown-Lower Saucon Chamber of Commerce meeting, PennDOT officials said the new expected completion date is fall 2016, The Express-Times reported.

The Express-Times said the delay is due to a higher-than-expected water table where the road crosses Saucon Creek.

The project will widen the road to accommodate two southbound and three northbound lanes between the I-78 interchange and Shimersville Road in Bethlehem.
