Smucker's Recalls 3,000 Jars of Peanut Butter

Smucker's peanut butter could pose risk of salmonella

J.M. Smucker Co. is recalling 3,000 16-ounce jars of its Smucker's Chunky Natural Peanut Butter because of possible salmonella contamination. Some of the product was distributed in Pennsylvania.

The peanut butter would have been purchased from Nov. 8 through Nov. 17 of this year.

The recalled jars of peanut butter:

  • Carry the UPC code 5150001701
  • Carry production codes 1307004 and 1308004
  • Have "best-if-used-by" dates of Aug. 3, 2012 and Aug. 4, 2012.

Smuckers says no illnesses have been reported.

Salmonella is bacteria resulting in fever, cramps and diarrhea that lasts for several days and can require hospitalization.

In addition to Pennsylvania, the product was distributed in: Arkansas, Colorado, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Texas, Virginia, Wisconsin and the District of Columbia.
