Traditions of Hanover plants seeds of care in the local community
The team at Traditions of Hanover helps to plant the seeds of service within their surrounding community.
Cultivating a culture of care. It’s a concept for which Traditions of Hanover is known.
“Although Traditions of Hanover primarily serves seniors, it is important for us to build relationships with our neighbors and be of service to others in their time of need, big or small,” Executive Director Cathy Heimsoth said.
Heimsoth and her team work together to plant those seeds of service within their surrounding community, using acts of kindness to make a difference and preserve a memory.
In late spring, the Traditions team donated marigolds to the Bethlehem Township Community Center to honor the memory of Allison Perno. The brightly blooming marigolds are the primary birth flower for October, Allison’s birth month. Her mother, Cathy Perno, is a longtime staff member at the community center.
“I truly appreciate everything Traditions does to help honor Allison,” Perno said. “These flowers brighten up the circle at BTCC and everyone loves seeing them and watching them grow. These flowers have such a deep meaning to my family. We hope you will be able to donate them again next year and the years to come.”

The Traditions team puts together monthly events that bring residents and guests together, growing internal and external bonds in the community. Most recently, visitors were invited for a free on-site activity at the retirement community to create a kitchen garden with organic basil, oregano, chives, and thyme herbs from Red Cat Farm in Germansville. The dining department used the same herbs to create delicious dips for attendees to sample while providing a recipe card as a take-home gift.
“There are many perks to growing your food, like better nutrition. Our activity provided a learning opportunity where we could share the benefits of using fresh herbs. The event also helped our residents and guests connect with new people and nature,” Heimsoth said.
