Viewfinder: MarchFourth Marching Band
Billed as a "punk rock marching band of epic proportions," this group knows how to entertain.
Portland, Oregon's MarchFourth Marching Band (or M4 as fans call them) pulled out all the stops for a rousing performance at Musikfest's Volksplatz stage on Friday August 12. The band is showy, funny and eclectic enough to please everyone from toddlers to granny and gramps.
The group is hard to pin down on musical style. With saxes, trombones, trumpets, drum/percussion corps and an electric bass, plus stilt-walkers, dancing girls, flag twirlers, clown antics, and acrobats, M4's web site describes their show as "Duke Ellington meets Sgt. Pepper in an international big-top Fantasia." That seems to fit.
If you missed your chance to see the band tonight, you're in luck. They will march down Main Street in a parade Saturday Aug 13 from 5:00-5:30 p.m. and return to the Volksplatz stage at 7:30 p.m. On Sunday Aug 14 they take part in a SouthSide parade at 4:00 p.m. and perform on the Levitt Pavilion Stage at 5:30.
