Walking the Walk
How can people of a variety of religions help Christians to reclaim the holiday called Christmas and make December a saner month for us all?
Youth from a program called "Walking the Walk" are joining us for our 10 am worship on Sunday, December 9th. These young people for a variety of religious backgrounds. The Interfaith Center of Philadelphia has organized a year long program that takes them to all kinds of faith centers to hear about how different people worship.
I think December is a good time to bring people of different religious backgrounds together because most all of us have a common frustration with the commercial frenzy that masquerades in this season as a religious holiday. I expect we will find common ground in that frustration.
At St. Luke this season we are exploring how we as a congregation can reclaim Christmas as a Christian holiday by buying less, giving to and serving those in need, and making time for each other and for the gifts of the Spirit. It will be interesting to see how these people from different religions will connect.
