Who Are the Change Makers? A Lecture on Sustainability by Leith Sharp

Learn the fundamentals of becoming a successful change agent for sustainability in your organization. Leith Sharp, the founding chair of the Sustainability Futures Leadership Academy, will introduce participants to the art of catalyzing wide-scale change in the behaviors and practices of large organizations such as universities, driving them to reduce their environmental impact. As she presents the major concepts and the role of the individual in bringing the new green economy to fruition, Sharp will use her many years of experience greening Harvard University as one of her primary case studies.

The keynote address for this spring's 360° course cluster "Perspectives on Sustainability," this lecture is free and open to the public.

Leith Sharp has 20 years of experience in succesfully advocating the integration of environmental sustainability into the business practices of higher education. She began her career as a student at the University of New South Wales, where she established one of the world's first campus sustainability programs. In 1999 Harvard hired her as the founding director of its Office of Sustainability, where she established one of the largest green-campus organizations in the world. In 2009, she became the executive director of another new organization, a partnership of 48 community college Presidents working together to drive green economic growth across Illinois. Under her leadership, the Illinois Green Economy Network secured over $25 million of Federal, State and Utility funding for green workforce training.
