Youth is sprinkled all over each time ’s baseball team takes the field. For the Rams in some places, they’re very young, and this season seems to be a growing process. It’s going to be gradual, and it will be marked by games like Thursday’s, when the Rams suffered a 7-3 Central League setback to a surging Radnor team.
The Rams fell to 0-4 in the league and 0-4 overall, while Radnor improved to 2-2 overall and in the league.
Harriton is winless, though there are some sparks that say the Rams are getting better with each game. Harriton coach Scott Kurzinsky started three freshmen against Radnor--one was left fielder Jake Rosenberg, who banged out a team-high three hits.

“We are a very young team,” Kurzinsky admitted. “We’re scrappy, but we can’t change bad habits overnight. This is going to take some time. I do like a lot of the things we’re doing. We’re getting players like Jake that are stepping up and playing well. Jake’s hitting clean-up for us, and doing well.”
It’s been a problem of one bad inning this season for Harriton. On Thursday, it was a matter of two bad innings, the first and second innings. The Rams surrendered three runs in each inning and were staring up at a large deficit when the Harriton offense started up. The Rams had the bases loaded in the sixth inning with a chance to climb back into the game, only to have Radnor starting pitcher Kyle Von Hertsenberg close the door on the opportunity.

“It’s a different story if we get a hit there, something, a little flare, something in the outfield, and it’s a different game,” Kurzinsky said.
In the meantime, Harriton will keep maturing and being patient as it develops. The Rams have been in games, as they were Thursday, needing that one big out, or the one big hit during a crucial moment. It’s been missing thus far, but that could change.
“This has been a real good experience for me and all the freshmen that are playing,” said Rosenberg, who scored all three Harriton runs. “I know we’re not the best team in the Central League, but we have been in games this year. We’ve been competitive. It’s usually been one inning that’s been killing us. Today, it was two innings. I think as the season progresses, we can turn this around and we will win some games.”
