LMHS Student OK After Hydrochloric Acid Burns Face

The accident caused a brief visit to the hospital, but the student returned to classes.

A science lab accident Friday morning at  resulted in a student being treated for a hydrochloric acid burn on his face, school district spokesman Doug Young said.

"It was a very small amount of acid, but obviously you take every precaution with that," said Young.

A teacher and nurse helped flush the acid off the student's face, Young said, and after a brief hospital stay, the student was back in school by late morning.

The teacher called 9-1-1 after the spill, everyone evacuated and the Lower Merion Fire Department cleared and ventilated the room, officials said. Young said he believed the lab would remain empty for the rest of the school day and presumably for the weekend.
