Local Teams Compete In Lacrosse Festival
Four area high schools competed in the 11th Annual Katie Samson Lacrosse Festival.
Agnes Irwin, Harriton, Baldwin and Shipley were among the 54 schools that competed in the 11th annual Katie Samson Lacrosse Festival held from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday at Radnor High School.
There was a total of 27 games on seven different fields. Besides the lacrosse action, there were amusements for children and lots of vendors selling food and all types of lacrosse gear. Teams from the Magee Rehabilitation Center played wheelchair rugby and basketball, demonstrating that a disability can be overcome.
The first of the 11 annual events was held to raise funds to pay the medical costs of Katie Samson, a Radnor High School lacrosse player who incurred a spinal injury in an accident 12 years ago. Since its beginning, the festival has raised more than $1 million for spinal injury research. Katie is an assistant coach of the Radnor High School girls lacrosse team. There is a photo of her in the gallery coaching from her wheelchair.
