Shipley Student Austin Wylie's Family 'Devastated' By Outcome Of Missing Teen
Some unfortunate news regarding the missing Shipley School student was released Friday.

The missing Shipley School student whose abandoned car was found Wednesday in Philadelphia is believed to have jumped off the Ben Franklin Bridge, school officials confirmed Friday in a letter to the community.
In a statement Friday, Shipley Head of School Steve Piltch said Austin Wylie's family shared the devastating news.
"On Wednesday afternoon, Austin parked his car at Spring Garden and 5th Street and proceeded to jump off of the Ben Franklin Bridge. Although his body has not yet been recovered, the family thinks it is important for people to know that it has become evident that this is what happened," the letter said.

A note to his family from his phone has been recovered by authorities, Piltch said. The letter said that "he was feeling significantly overwhelmed in the moment."
The family is "devastated," Piltch said, saying the standout soccer player who recently finished his junior year at the Bryn Mawr private school had a reputation as one of the "most committed, talented, humble, and resilient students."

Wylie had an "insatiable drive to do his best," he loved to learn and accomplished "ever so much" as a student, athlete and person, Piltch said. "Not one to bring notice to himself, he was a leader by example; he took full responsibility for anything that ever went wrong and did whatever he could to help those around him get better."
The family is currently planning services. Further information will be shared when available.
Friends took to social media to express their sorrow Friday.
