WATCH: Main Line Cop, KOP Man Commended For Burning Car Rescue

A Main Line cop and a man from King of Prussia were recently commended for their efforts to save a man from a burning car in December. Lower Merion Township Police Officer Stephen Patton and civilian Ronald Shields both received commendations from the township for their heroism.

The men were honored after saving Reginald Huc, of Lower Merion, from burning car.

Huc crashed into a tree on Lafayette Road in Gladwyne, causing the care to catch fire, on December 31.

Shields came upon the crash and attempted to get the Huc out of the vehicle and Patton responded shortly thereafter.

Patton, Shields, and a third person who was not identified pulled the driver from the car as flames entered the passenger compartment.

"It's a very surreal thing to process," Huc said of his life being saved. "I'm so grateful and proud to be a member of this community."

Huc thanked Patton and Shields for their selfless acts, saying he would not be alive were it not for them.

Lower Merion Police Superintendent Michael McGrath also thanked Patton and Shields for going above and beyond to save Huc from the perilous situation.
