A Message From State Rep. Neuman: Be Cognizant of Domestic Violence Awareness Month
The local legislator wants you to know there are resources available for those in need.

Each October, we reflect on the millions of Americans who suffer from domestic abuse every day. Domestic violence takes many forms: physical and sexual abuse, harassment, threats, vandalism, trespassing, burglary, theft, and stalking.
It happens to women and men in all racial, ethnic, religious, educational, social and economic backgrounds, and it often affects victims' children, other family members, friends, neighbors and coworkers.
Unfortunately, domestic violence is one of the most chronically underreported crimes and, in some cases, escalates to the point of injury and death by suicide or homicide.
If you know someone who is suffering from domestic violence, there are groups that can help. The National Coalition Against Domestic Violence has a Domestic Violence Hotline: 1-800-799-SAFE (7233).
Locally, the Washington Women's Shelter provides a safe place for women to go, support groups and counseling, and a 24-hour hotline at 724-223-9190 or 1-800-791-4000. The Pennsylvania Coalition Against Domestic Violence also offers a listing of statewide services here.
I welcome your feedback on this or any other state-related issue.
