About $1 Million in Road Repairs to Begin Soon
Several Cecil roadways will get a makeover within the next several weeks.

About $1 million in road repairs are slated to begin soon in , township Manager Don Gennuso confirmed this week.
"Any week now the work should be starting," he said.
While the board of supervisors originally wanted to borrow $1 million to execute the major road project, it ultimately decided to instead take out a $500,000 loan and use another half-million dollars from its fund balance to pay for repairs.

And Gennuso said a such a comprehensive program has its advantages.
"You're getting a big chunk of roads improvements out of the way," he said. "But more than that, if you let roads go for too long, the cost to repair them is also greater."

Gennuso said two contracts for the work were both awarded to Shields Asphalt Paving.
The first bid was in the amount of $286,000 and includes the cost of rehabilitating Southpointe Boulevard from around Technology Boulevard to the Interstate 79 interchange.
The second contract was awarded in the amount $741,591 and will include work on the following throughways:
- All of Morgan Road
- Portions of Ridgewood Avenue
- About half the roads in Georgetown Estates—ones Gennuso identified as being located in the oldest portions of the development
- Hillcrest Road and Farmcrest Road in the Fleeher plan
Gennuso said the township is still finalizing proposals from various financial institutions, but confirmed the three-year loan would carry between a 2.5- and 3-percent interest rate.
Supervisors, he said, would sign off on final paperwork at their September meeting.
