Teen Accused of Robbing Solobay Found Not Guilty

The teenager charged with robbing state Sen. Tim Solobay was found not guilty Wednesday.

A Dauphin County jury on Wednesday found a teenager charged with robbing not guilty.

Court dockets show that the jury found Thomas Evans, 17, not guilty of robbery and conspiracy. Both were felony charges.

Harrisburg police charged Evans and another suspect in September 2010.

Solobay, D-Canonsburg told police he was returning to his vehicle when he was approached by four young men wearing masks and hooded sweatshirts demanding money. He escaped unharmed.

A second teenager charged in the incident is expected to stand trial in October.

Reached Wednesday afternoon, Solobay said the defense attorney "did a good job casting a shadow of doubt" and that ultimately, there was not enough evidence to find the teen guilty.

"Are we disappointed? Sure," he said, adding that he believes the trial for the second suspect could yield a guilty verdict because there is more evidence in the case.
