Bevec Voted in as Canonsburg Council President
Former County Commissioner John Bevec was unanimously voted in as Canonsburg Council president on Tuesday.

Mayor David H. Rhome shook John Bevec's hand and handed him his gavel.
"I congratulate you on your presidency," he said as Bevec, a former county commissioner who was tapped to fill a vacancy on council last year, took the helm of Canonsburg's reorganization meeting Tuesday.
Councilman Rich Russo was then unanimously appointed to vice president, while Councilwoman Fran Coleman was voted president pro-tem.

That's when Councilman Patricia Romano made a motion to appoint Robert "Mont" Miller to fill a vacancy on council left by
, who then took a seat with his colleagues.

Council then:
- Retained Cypher & Cypher as its auding firm
- Retained HMT & Associates as its engineer
- Retained Patrick Derrico as solicitor
- Set meetings dates for 7 p.m. the first and second Monday of each month
- Reappointed Denny D’Orazio to a four-year term to the vacancy board Council
- Reappointed Tom Stanko to a four-year term on the Greater Canonsburg Library Association
- Reappointed Manuel Pihakis to a three-year term on the Greater Canonsburg Library Association board
- Reappoint John Alterio to a two-year term on the Uniform Construction Code board
- Reappoined Leanna Coyle to a three-year term on the parks and recreation board
- Aappointed John Severine to a three-year term on the parks and recreation board.
- Appoint Tony Trona to a one-year term on the zoning hearing board
- Appoint Lewis Briner to a two-year term on the civil service commission
Also during the meeting, newly elected council members Tim Bilski, Coleman and Joseph McGarry were sworn in by .
Before adjourning, Bevec suggested that council meet in a workshop to discuss its goals for the next two years, so that it can plan and prioritize.
That meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Jan. 30 in council chambers.
