A Candy-Coated Favor

Ever wonder what other parents were thinking when they sent in a certain Halloween or Valentine's Day treat? Here is an open letter to other parents trying to set some ground rules!

Dear Fellow Parents,

I know we all want to make our kids happy. After "keep them safe," making them happy is pretty high on the objective list as a parent. We need to be willing to draw the line somewhere, though. If not to teach your child boundaries, maybe we can establish one important rule that will save my sanity (and my guess is countless other moms as well).

It involves Halloween and Valentine's Day treats. You want to be the overachieving mom who puts together the ultra elaborate bag of goodies? Go for it! You want to be the cute mom who makes the homemade cookies? Good for you! You think a simple card is the way to go? Awesome!

I can handle all of those no problem. My sister once told me you can tell who doesn't like you because they are the ones who give your child Play-Doh. I have decided Play-Doh is not the most evil thing you can send home with my kiddo.

Please, for the sake of my carpet, my couch, my vacuum and my sanity, DO NOT buy Nerds or Fun Dip. Please. I am begging you. Seriously begging. I am down on my knees giving you puppy dog face and asking that this forever be taken off your shopping list for my kids.

Even my super-ultra-mega suction Dyson misses half of the Nerds left in my shag carpet. It is days later and I can still feel the tiny pieces of candy hidden in my carpet. I can't see it, but I know it is there.

My couch has a nice big pink spot where my kid tried to open the Fun Dip you thought was a good idea. Let me clue you in for a second...it wasn't.

So, next time you run to Walgreens or Target to buy treats for your kid's class, ask yourself if you really want to be "that mom." Picture my sad eyes and pouty lip as I beg you to forego this sugary spawn of satan. You will become much more popular at PTO meetings and little league games if you do!

Sincerely-

A Mom on the Edge
