Facebook-Colored Glasses
Facebook only shows what people want you to think their lives are like...it is time for a reality check!
Remember that girl from high school? The one who came to school every day with every strand of hair perfectly in place; always had one of the school's heart throbs on her arm; perfect white teeth in a constant wide, perfect smile?
Now...however umpteen years later it may be, you open Facebook and instead of that perfect pearly smile, you see her perfect family updates. Apparently her husband is the most handsome, most successful man in all of the city. He lavishes her with gifts and date nights.
Her perfect children ride magical flying unicorns to school and fart rainbows. At only 3-years-old her prodigies are reading at a 10th-grade level.
Don't play dumb...I know you can all think of one of these Facebook perfect people.
Meanwhile, for all you know, she could have put on 200 pounds, grown a mustache, be married to a toothless unemployed drunk and her two flea-ridden dogs are the "kids" she so lovingly posts about.
Facebook has managed to find a way to make us all feel like somehow we are falling short of the imaginary bar that has been set for us. When in reality, anybody can paint any kind of picture they want others to believe.
I know I am sometimes guilty of painting a happier picture of my life than the reality. Honestly though, I'd rather not share my financial woes or post all over Facebook about the argument my husband and I had last night.
Granted, some people feel every detail of their lives should be on Facebook....every meal, every workout, and my personal favorite—vague, troublesome posts that leave everyone worried. But for the most part, we only see the best or happiest parts of people's lives.
I know my life isn't perfect. I am not the perfect wife, I am not the perfect mom, and my family without a doubt has our share of adventures—both good and bad. As a refreshing break to the questionable reality on Facebook, I am going to share a bit more of the good, the bad and the ugly of my life here.
If you want to read, laugh, cry, make-fun of and share in my life's adventures, great.
Welcome to the crazy roller coaster that my real life is!
