Holistic Hints: Q&A - I have zero energy today

Holistic Hints- for a zero energy day

Q. I have zero energy this morning. I've heard exercise can help. Is that true?

A. Even though it is the last thing a no-energy tired person wants to hear, yes it does.

Nothing takes the place of a good night's sleep - not coffee, not candy, and in the short term, not even exercise...

It seems counter-intuitive, but exercise really does boost your energy over the long term. Getting good exercise can help you sleep better, which gives you more energy, which makes it easier to exercise and so on and so on...exercise can get the cycle going in a better direction.

Like all things natural, it takes a little time to get to the root problem and see real, curative-type of change. So what do you do if you are sitting there with no energy and you don't want to reach for the chemistry of caffiene and sugar?

A big run or vigorous exercise probably doesn't sound very appealing at that point. For me - it's not going to happen.

The best solution, I've found is to honor both...honor what you are feeling while taking action to make things better. The answer is light exercise combined with deep breathing. Things like yoga and tai chi can do alot, even though it seems (and feels) very gentle.

Stress can be another drain on energy and these kinds of meditative exercises can help low energy in a variety of ways. Two big ones spring to mind:

First the movement and deep breathing can help spark metabolism a little bit increasing your energy outright.

Second, the relaxing, meditative aspects of yoga and tai chi can help decrease stress, and stress' drain on your energy.

Any little change can help. So if you are zero energy today, try some light meditative exercise with deep breathing. Barring that, you could always walk to the coffee shop instead of driving...every little bit helps.
