Mere moments after submitting , a host of other movies that were based on books came to mind. The Harry Potter phenomenon and the Twilight series are obvious examples, and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is another recent film release first that spent weeks on the best-seller list. Of course, there are others that have not yet made it into the theaters - you'll be able to find Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter and World War Z there later this year. The list of books that have been turned into movies is a long one, but that's not what this post is about. Instead, let's look at another way in which books have come to life...
Did you know that Showtime's Dexter was first a figment of the imagination of novelist Jeff Lindsay? Or that the character of Sookie Stackhouse appeared on paper long before HBO began airing True Blood? Of course, Showtime and HBO aren't the only places to find fictional folks that started out in books - it seems that it's becoming more of a common thing these days.
Bones is soon returning its seventh season and is based on the Temperance Brennan series that Dr. Kathy Reichs began with the release of Deja Dead in 1997. Friday Night Lights won three Emmy awards during its television run, and it, too, started out in the mind of an author...in this case, it was Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist H. G. Bissinger. One last series that comes to mind is one of my favorites - it is Rizolli & Isles and it's based on the nine (so far) Tess Gerritsen books featuring Det. Jane Rizolli and Dr. Maura Isles.
