Zombies and Other Health Issues

When it comes to your health, the library has information from Addiction to Zombies!

Health literacy is defined by The National Institutes of Health as "the ability to understand health information and to use that information to make good decisions about your health and medical care" and it is one of the five literacies emphasized by PA Forward.

The PA Library Association is convinced that libraries can play an important role in helping citizens actively manage their own and their family’s well-being, making them effective partners with their health care providers and living longer, more productive lives and we at the Frank Sarris Public Library are firm believers!

At the present time, the catalog holds nearly 1000 items pertaining to health including several periodicals (Web MD and Healthnews, for example) for which we have subscriptions.

We also have health-related books in the young adult department and we haven't forgetten the youngsters!

The juvenile collection contains not just non-fiction, but also a number of fiction books to introduce the topic, too, including such titles as Mercer Mayer's Good for Me and You, Jonathan London's Froggy Goes to the Doctor and The Berenstain Bears Visit the Dentist.

Naturally, we have information for adults from A to Z and an abundance of information in between...addiction, arthritis, and autism are just a few of the subjects you'll find at the beginning of the alphabet.

Admittedly, selection for health topics beginning with the letter Z is more limited, but we do have zombies!

Yes, that's right, we have Max Brooks' The Zombie Survival Guide.

Not sure that Zombies fall into the "health-related" category?  Well, you could be right, but they are found on the CDC's website!
