C-M Dished Out $30K to Settle Lawsuit
A federal judge dismissed the case against the district in the wake of the settlement.

Although an attorney for Canon-McMillan on Saturday said she could not comment on a lawsuit that was dismissed Friday against the district regarding a former student, the Tribune-Review on Tuesday reported it settled the matter for $30,000.
The newspaper said the district released the amount Tuesday in response to its Right to Know request.
Board President Debbie Link on Friday said she was unaware that a lawsuit filed by a former student and her family against the district regarding a former volunteer coach who’d been convicted of sexual abuse against the girl had been dismissed.

Asked about a possible settlement, she said the board would vote on it in September.
Court records show that the coach, Justin Bedilion, 29, was charged by Canonsburg police in 2007 with indecent deviate sexual intercourse, involuntary assault and corruption of minors. He pleaded guilty to the charges in 2008, according to records.

Link declined to comment further on the lawsuit. Susan Roberts, who represented the district and its administrators, would say only the suit was over. Matthew Keranko, who represented the family, did not return a phone call placed to his office.
