Canon-Mac Adminstrator Given $25K Bonus
Canon-McMillan school directors voted to give Michael Daniels the one-time payment during their regular monthly meeting Monday.

During the 2011-12 school year, Michael Daniels pulled double duty, performing both the job of the assistant superintendent and substitute superintendent—an effort that earned the Canon-McMillan administrator a one-time bonus of $25,000 Monday night.
Daniels, who is the district's assistant to the superintendent,
"In recognition of the efforts and performance of substitute superintendent, Michael Daniels, who has served in such a capacity without an increase in compensation or an additional duty stipend during the 2011-2012 school year, the board confers a one-time bonus of $25,000," the resolution read.

The motion passed by a vote of 7-0. Both Manuel Pihakis and Eric Kline were absent from Monday's meeting.
"He's wonderful," board President Darla Bowman-Monaco said of Daniels after the meeting. "He's outgoing and we're very happy with his performance."

She stressed that the bonus was the result of his performance—and was a reflection of the goals that were set and achieved during the school year.
While Monaco was not immediately able to provide salary information for Daniels, she said the difference between the salary of an assistant to the superintendent and superintendent "is a pretty big number."
Reached after the meeting, Daniels said he was thankful for the recognition of his work.
"It's quite humbling," he said.
